Risk Information Alliance Framework
The RIA Risk Assessment Framework is our compass to deliver top quality country risk assessments.
As part of its core mission, the Risk Information Alliance (RIA) has developed a joint assessment Framework for producing country risk assessments related to sustainability topics. It builds on earlier work carried out by RIA members and brings together a methodology for developing assessments and a structured set of sustainability indicators.
RIA country assessments describe the context of a given country by compiling relevant legislation, explaining the legal framework, and presenting an overview of the situation on the ground. This includes information drawn from local actors and a range of written sources, such as reports, studies, and articles.
The methodology defines the process and steps used to produce RIA country risk assessments and includes elements that address credibility and transparency. The Framework also includes sustainability indicators organised under themes and criteria. The indicators cover a range of sustainability topics, including:
The Framework development was possible thanks to a grant from the ISEAL Innovations Fund, which is supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs – SECO.

RIA Indicators
RIA Indicators are used to develop country risk assessments. They are organised in themes, criteria and principles and they cover a wide range of sustainability issues including land rights, environmental protection, human rights, labour conditions, and economic factors.

RIA methodology
The RIA Methodology outlines the approach and methodology used by the Risk Information Alliance (RIA), via its Members, to develop and approve country risk assessments. It highlights the main steps and key requirements applied to develop consistent, credible and robust assessments.

Risk screening indices
The Risk screening indices are the application of one module of the RIA methodology aiming at easing the assessment process by relying on recognized structured data. So far, indices are available on 3 different topics: freedom of association, modern slavery and bribery/corruption.
